“Trace the path of history and commemorate the great heroism of King Naresuan the Great, while viewing authentic military equipment that has faced numerous battlefields.”

3rd Recruiting Division Royal Thai Army (3rd Army Area Military Museum)  is not merely a place for storing weapons, but a space created to honor and preserve the military history of Thailand, particularly in the Northern region. The museum originated from the need to collect historical evidence, military hardware, and records of significant events in which the 3rd Army Area participated. Its purpose is to ensure that military personnel, youth, and the general public recognize the sacrifices of ancestors who protected the nation's independence. It is located within King Naresuan the Great Camp, a site of long-standing strategic importance.

The primary reason for establishing the museum was to create the most complete historical learning center in the region to convey stories of various battlefields, such as World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and communist insurgency operations. Inside, the museum offers fascinating and comprehensive exhibitions divided into key zones as follows:

  • King Naresuan the Great Tribute Zone: Displays the royal biography and military genius of the King, particularly his legendary elephant duel and the restoration of independence, serving as the spiritual heart of Phitsanulok people and 3rd Army personnel.

  • Military Equipment Evolution Zone: Gathers weaponry from ancient times, such as swords, spears, and shields, to cannons and modern weapons used by the army. It also features rare displays of military uniforms from different eras.

  • Significant Battlefields Zone: Tells stories through dioramas and historical photographs of major events, such as the heroism at Khao Kho and various operations that demonstrate the bravery of Thai soldiers in defending national sovereignty.

  • Outdoor Exhibition Zone: A highlight for heavy equipment enthusiasts, featuring actual decommissioned fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, and artillery that visitors can see and photograph up close.

What makes this military museum stand out is its solemn and prestigious atmosphere within a military base. The displays blend modern techniques with the classic feel of ancient artifacts, accompanied by descriptions that instill pride in the sacrifice of Thai warriors. The grounds are spacious, shady, and well-organized in military fashion. Additionally, military officers are often available as guides to provide knowledge and answer questions in a friendly manner, ensuring that learning history is never boring.

Visiting the 3rd Army Area Military Museum is more than just a typical museum tour; it is an opportunity to absorb the spirit of bravery and learn lessons from the past to understand the importance of today's peace. It is an ideal place for families to inspire children and for those interested in Thai political and military history. It remains a valuable landmark in Phitsanulok city that is well worth a visit.
