“Stroll through the narrow alleys to admire street art that reflects the way of life of Miang (fermented tea) producers, amidst year-round cool weather and the lush greenery of an ancient forest surrounding the village”
Street Art Ban Pa Miang Village (Street Art Ban Pa Miang Village) Ban Pa Miang is a small village located high in the mountains within Chae Son National Park. Traditionally, it is famous for "Miang" (wild tea leaf) production, which has been the primary occupation of the villagers for generations. To promote creative tourism, the Street Art project was born from a collaboration between artists and art students who created murals on wooden house walls and concrete fences across the village. The key reason for using street art was to create an engaging landmark for the younger generation, allowing them to experience traditional lifestyles that might otherwise be forgotten through simple yet meaningful lines and colors.
The street art here is unique because it uses the context of the area as its main theme. You will see paintings of elders sorting tea leaves, children playing in tea gardens, and the Dok Siao (Bauhinia) flowers that bloom every February. These images are distributed across actual residential homes, making the art tour feel like walking through a living museum. Every painting relates to the house owners and the surrounding community. Beyond the murals, visitors can experience a peaceful atmosphere with a stream flowing through the village and cool air all year a perfect blend of modern art and the charm of an ancient valley community.
A visit to Pa Miang is more than just a photo opportunity it is a chance to learn the wisdom of Miang production from harvesting and steaming to fermenting. Visitors can also shop for processed products like healthy tea-leaf pillows or taste local dishes featuring tea leaves. This proves that art can add value to a community and help sustain local stories in the modern world.
Another captivating charm is the art trail that connects each alley to the simple, authentic lives of the villagers. You might see gentle smoke from a tea-steaming hut rising to perfectly meet a mural depicting that very process. Along the path, the sound of the stream running through the heart of the community enriches the pleasant and tranquil ambiance. Each artwork is placed to harmonize with local flora, allowing the paintings to come alive as light and shadows shift through the forest trees. Most importantly, the genuine friendliness of the Pa Miang people who are always ready to greet and share the stories behind the murals with a sincere smile ensures that this is not just a photo spot, but a destination that touches the hearts of travelers through the humbleness of humanity and nature.
